St. Louis Catholic High School’s Journalism class has launched “The Lou” podcast series, as students work to develop their skills in modern journalism techniques.

Click here to listen to the first episode with junior Tyler August and senior Sarah Blue interviewing fellow Saints junior Mason Schlang on the social media video app TikTok.  More than 16 million people under age 25 use TikTok, and Schlang has 64,000 followers, establishing himself as a TikTok influencer.

Journalism teacher Monica Core said her students choose the podcast topics and the guests who appear. They are currently working on scripts for two more podcasts this year.

St. Louis Catholic’s Journalism class is a semester-long course open to juniors and seniors who are interested in developing their skills as writers.  The course explores the contemporary media and the ethical responsibility issues inherent in the press today.  Students learn the fundamentals of news, feature, editorial and sports writing, focusing on copy reading, news style and editing.  Students also create numerous original stories using varied structures and writing techniques, along with computer-generated layouts and graphics.  The course is NOT an English credit, nor does it fulfill the Fine Art elective credit for TOPS.
