Physical Education

REGULAR PE COURSES

HEALTH (Required for freshmen entering 2012 and beyond)

This course provides an understanding of healthful living. It lays a foundation for promoting a healthier and safer lifestyle. Students will gain knowledge of first aid and the effects of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs on the body. They will also deepen their understanding about the importance of healthful eating, sleep, and physical activity.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION I (REGULAR PE)

This course is a sequential presentation of games, sports, exercises, and rhythmic activities designed to develop skill which meet education objectives, foster physical fitness, and encourage use of leisure time

PHYSICAL EDUCATION II (REGULAR PE)

This course is a sequential presentation of games, sports, exercises, and rhythmic activities designed to develop skill which meet education objectives, foster physical fitness, and encourage use of leisure time
Credit 1 Grade 10
Prerequisite – None

PHYSICAL EDUCATION III (REGULAR PE)

This course is designed for students who want an additional credit in PE, but who do not participate in a sport.
Credit 1 Grade 11
Prerequisite- Health and Physical Ed. I and II

PHYSICAL EDUCATION IV (REGULAR PE)

This course is designed for students who want an additional credit in PE, but who do not participate in a sport.
Credit 1 Grade 12
Prerequisite- Health and Physical Ed. I, II, and III

ATHLETIC PE COURSES

These courses are open to students who are recommended and approved by coaches for athletic PE.

ATHLETIC PE I BOYS and ATHLETIC PE I GIRLS

These courses cover the same topics as regular PE I.
Credit .5 Grade 9
Prerequisite-Recommendation/approval by PE Department

ATHLETIC PE II BOYS and ATHLETIC PE II GIRLS

These courses cover the same topics as regular PE II.
Credit 1 (one for each year) Grade 10
Prerequisite-Recommendation/approval by PE Department

ATHLETIC PE III BOYS and ATHLETIC PE III GIRLS

This course is designed for juniors who are participating in organized sports at St. Louis. Through participation in lifetime sports, hopefully the students will gain an appreciation and desire to pursue these activities as an adult. Physical fitness is again included in the course.
Credit 1 Grade 11
Prerequisite- Health and Physical Ed. I and II, Recommendation/approval by PE Department

ATHLETIC PE IV BOYS and ATHLETIC PE IV Girls

This course is an advanced P.E. course for students who wish to develop and maintain a high level of fitness/conditioning. Students will participate in a yearlong program of weight lifting, running and selected drills designed to develop or enhance agility, speed and quickness.
Credit 1 Grade 12
Prerequisite- Health and Physical Ed. I, II, and III, Recommendation/approval by PE Department
