From January 9-10, 2020, St. Louis Catholic faculty members Melanie LeJeune and Mary Villaume attended the Microsoft Underground Learning Summit in Redmond, Wash., and represented their cohort in the Microsoft Innovator Educator Expert (MIE) Boom activity.

The Microsoft Education Underground Summit is an opportunity for 250 U.S. MIE Experts and Showcase School leaders to come together for two days of learning with like-minded educators from across the country.  Throughout the two days, attendees like LeJeune and Villaume learned from each other as well as ed tech experts during learning breakouts and had the opportunity to explore some of the unique environments where technologies are being created and developed.

Their cohort consisted of New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee.  LeJeune, St. Louis Catholic’s Library Media Specialist, and Villaume, Latin Teacher and Instructional Coach, presented to attendees on “Why Free Choice Reading Matters:  Connecting Readers to Their Books.”
