St. Louis Catholic High School is proud to announce its 2018-2019 Student of the Year honoree is senior Lauren Cousté.

The daughter of Thomas and Jennifer Cousté of Lake Charles, Lauren currently serves as Executive President of Student Council, Vice President of National Honor Society and President of Earth Club, and she is a member of Saints Ambassadors, promoting St. Louis Catholic High School at Advancement and Alumni events and in the local community.  Cousté was chosen co-captain of the Saints swim team in 2018 and captain of Southwest Louisiana Tournament Volleyball from 2016-2017.  She also has devoted many hours to volunteer projects throughout high school, including Operation Christmas Child, Children’s Art Fest, Kirkman Street Cleanup, Vacation Bible School and tutoring.

“My role as a tutor in National Honor Society as well as at the local charter school enabled me to realize my desire to help those around me, to share my own abilities with others,” Cousté said. “These experiences have not only shaped me into the person I am today, but they have cultivated crucial life skills within me.”

Cousté has a 4.4 GPA and received several academic honors in 2018, including Academic All-State from the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, nomination as Louisiana Delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, selection as St. Louis Catholic’s representative to the National Student Leadership Conference, and the Outstanding Academics Award from St. Louis Catholic High School.

“It is an immense honor for me to be named Student of the Year,” Cousté said.  “I love representing St. Louis Catholic in any way possible, so I am ecstatic to actually compete for my school.  St. Louis Catholic is my home, and I am honored to be able to bear my school’s name through each round of competition.”

Cousté will compete at the diocesan, regional and state levels.  The Louisiana Department of Education will announce the elementary, middle/junior high and high school Students of the Year on April 10, 2019.

The Louisiana Student of the Year Award Program was established to identify and recognize an outstanding senior who represents all students in our diocesan school system.  The criteria for selecting an outstanding student are based on academic achievement, service, character, leadership and communication skills.  Candidates for Student of the Year must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a four-point scale and submit an application portfolio.
