St. Louis Catholic senior pitcher Hannah Derouen signed her national letter of intent to play softball for Millsaps College on Friday.

Surrounded by her family and the Saints community, Derouen made her college decision official in a ceremony in the Commons.  She said playing softball at St. Louis Catholic has taught her life lessons of hard work and dedication that she’s ready to take to the college level.

“It’s a great, beautiful campus, I love the community they have there, and it’s not too far away from home,” Derouen said of Millsaps.

Derouen has been pitching since fourth grade, and in her final season with the Lady Saints, she said their biggest goal is to reach the 2019 state tournament in Sulphur.

“I love being in every single play, and I love being one of the leaders on the field,” she said.   “I’ve been playing with catcher Shelby (Wood) and (outfielder/middle infielder) Katelyn (Courville) since we were 10, so they’re like family to me now.  We have so many memories on the bus rides and in the locker room…we are so close on this team.”

The Lady Saints have won three straight games and sit at 8-6 on the season.  They travel to take on Barbe tonight in nondistrict action.
