Girls Soccer

The sixth seeded girls soccer team came from behind Tuesday to down 11th seed Archbishop Hannan in a regional playoff contest on campus. Senior Sarah Upshaw and junior Jessica Lytle scored goals in the 2-1 victory. The Lady Saints will next travel to face #3 seed St. Michael the Archangel in Baton Rouge. Day and time are still TBA.

Girls Basketball

Coach Johnson and his Lady Saints team clinched the District 4-3A championship with a pair of wins over the last week. The girls clinched at least a share of the league title with a hard-fought 50-48 win over South Beauregard at Burton Coliseum Friday and won the outright championship with a dominating 67-37 road win at Westlake on Tuesday. They will close out the regular season Friday night at Burton Coliseum against Iowa and expect to be the top seed in the Division II playoffs starting next week.

Indoor Track

The boys and girls indoor track & field teams closed out their regular season Saturday at LSU’s Last Chance Qualifier. Senior Halyn Senegal placed third in the 400 meters and was on the second-place 4 x 400 meter relay team with junior Ella Simoneaux and sophomores Kassidy Richard and Kenzie Touchet. Senegal enters next week’s state meet as the top seed in Division II in three individual events – 60 meters, 400 meters and 800 meters. All three girls relay teams (4 x 200, 4 x 400 and 4 x 800) are also seeded first, as is boys senior Josh Orsot in the 400 meters.

Boys Basketball

Both boys basketball games in the last week went down to the wire, with the Saints winning one and losing one. On Friday, Coach Guillory’s team lost a heartbreaker to South Beauregard for the second time this year, falling 48-44 at Burton Coliseum. The team bounced back on Tuesday with a 40-38 road victory at Westlake. Senior Terry Sherman hit a putback layup with three seconds remaining to provide the winning margin. The Saints will host Iowa at Burton Coliseum on Friday.

Powerlifting

The Saints powerlifting teams continue their season this Saturday in the Abbeville Raw Invitational. The meet features “Raw” rules, which do not permit special lifting suits or wrist or knee wraps. Senior captains for the Saints are Molly Inman, Stephen Russell Kershaw and Connor Mills.

Boys Soccer – GAME IS TONIGHT SO THIS WILL BE OUTDATED BY THE TIME IT RUNS TOMORROW

The boys soccer team traveled to Houma Wednesday for a regional playoff game at Vandebilt Catholic. The 10th seeded Saints were looking for an upset over the seventh seeded Terriers in a matchup of traditional soccer powers.

Tennis – TEAMS WILL BE PLAYING AT THE TIME THIS IS RELEASED – WEATHER PERMITTING

The Saints tennis teams are continuing their season today with their first match of the season at Jennings. Last week, sophomore Maggie Lang picked up a victory in A singles at a tournament in Port Neches, Tex., while junior Lizzie Neck and freshman Meredith Karam won the A singles consolation bracket.
