Coach Holley Fontenot and her boys and girls teams have begun preparations for the upcoming season. The girls team looks to improve on their third place finish at last year’s state meet, despite losing some key participants to graduation. Junior Ella Segura placed 7th individually at the state meet a year ago and is primed to be one of the top runners in the state this year. Juniors Kenzie Touchet and Mollie Maze also return.

The boys will have to replace one of the program’s all-time greats, two-time state champion Ivan Appleton, who is now running for Tufts University. Returning runners hoping to fill those shoes include senior Nathaniel McNally and junior Cody Lyons.

Coach Taylor Rideaux enters her second season at the helm of the Saints swim teams and will rely on a group of experienced veterans to lead her young teams. Seniors Eloise Diedrich and Harper Darbonne will lead the girls squad, while the boys have a trio of seniors – Graham Conrad, Luke Monlezun and Jacob Weaver.

Underclassmen Reese Darbonne, Maya Sanders and Ella Scroggs also scored at the state meet a year ago, while underclassmen boys got points from Max Adams, Thomas Alley, Evan Mathis and Avery Meche.

The Saints football team is putting the finishing touches on their preparations for the 2021 season under head coach Brock Matherne. This year’s squad has a good mix of veteran experience and talented young players.

Expected to lead the way for the Saints offense are junior QB James Reina, senior RB Logan Trahan and junior WR Grant Evans. Seniors Kade Bouillion and Jalen Guidry will be the leaders of the offensive line.

Seniors returning on the defensive side of the ball for the Saints include DB Marcus Duhon, DL Camden Watkins and LB Cody LeBato. They’ll be joined by sophomores Kade Nugent, Luke Mere and Ethan Goss on the defensive line.

Duhon and Trahan should be standouts in the return game for the Saints, while a trio of talented specialists – seniors Spencer Briley and Jake Smith and sophomore Landon Daughdril – compete for the kicking and punting positions.

The Saints will open the regular season on September 3 at Crowley, but will travel to Live Oak for a scrimmage on August 20 and tangle with Barbe in the Sulphur jamboree on August 27. Home games this season will be played at Sulphur’s Matt Walker Stadium.

Coach Bit Thompson and the Lady Saints hope to build on last season’s state tournament quarterfinal appearance with a very talented group of young ladies.

Seniors Dillon Anderson, Ella DeMolle and Dhara Brassieur return to lead the Saints with their experience and skillful play. Tennis standout Meredith Henning has also joined the squad for her senior season.

A group of talented underclassmen who also contributed to last season’s quarterfinal run to Metairie includes juniors Grace Link and Billie Painter and sophomores Grace Simien and Katie Kennison.

The Lady Saints open their season on August 31 against Notre Dame. Most home games will be played at Hamilton Christian this season. Halo Notes and our athletics social media pages will provide time and location information all season.
