Girls Basketball

The Lady Saints defeated 4th seeded St. Thomas More Tuesday night to earn their third consecutive state finals berth. Coach Johnson and his top-seeded team will once again battle Liberty (formerly Lee) Magnet for the title Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the University Center on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. or tickets will be available at the door for $13.

Boys Basketball

The boys basketball team downed 11 seed Thomas Jefferson Monday night to earn a trip to Friday’s quarterfinal round. Junior Bryson Hardy led the way with 19 points. Coach Guillory and his team will travel to face third-seeded Liberty Magnet in Baton Rouge at 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10 and only available for purchase online at     .


The Saints wrestling team posted several strong performances in last weekend’s state meet in Baton Rouge. Coach Gage’s squad placed fifth as a team, led by two individual state champions: sophomore Luke Caballero at 106 pounds and freshman Hank Hebert at 113. Also earning spots on the podium were senior John Reina (2nd), sophomore Hank Milligan (3rd), freshman Graham Montet (5th) and junior Daniel Thomas (6th).


Five Saints powerlifters advanced through last week’s regionals to qualify for the upcoming state championship meet in Monroe. Seniors Molly Inman, Stephen Kershaw and Connor Mills, junior Cody LeBato and sophomore Sam Slade will all make the trip to compete at the University of Louisiana-Monroe on March 18-19.

Track & Field

The Saints track & field teams opened their outdoor season at Wednesday’s Brusly Invitational. The girls dominated the meet, outpointing second-place Scotlandville by a 122-86 score. The boys, limited by injuries, placed fifth. Event winners for the Saints were: Wesley Maze (100 meters), Josh Orsot (400 meters), Mason Abshire (pole vault), Kenzie Touchet (100 hurdles & 300 hurdles), Maci Fontenot (high jump), Ali Myers (pole vault), Mary Claire Groves, Mary Dempsey, Ella Segura and Mia Medlin (4 x 800 relay).


Saints golfers will open their season Saturday at the Basile Invitational at Koasati Pines Golf Club in Kinder. Representing the boys will be sophomores Ross Anderson and George Trappey and freshmen Cameron Langley, Jonathan Perry and Collin Achee’. Playing for the girls will be junior Ann-Margaret Rosteet.
