Three St. Louis Catholic seniors signed national letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level Wednesday in a schoolwide ceremony in the Commons.

Gus Milligan signed with LSU baseball, Madison Guillory with Louisiana College softball and Alex Yokubaitis with Oklahoma State wrestling in front of family, friends and classmates as the 2019 early signing period began today.

Yokubaitis described the signing as “incredible.”

“I’ve put in a lot of hard work in wrestling, and my coaches made that possible for me,” said Yokubaitis, a three-time state champion at St. Louis Catholic.  “I chose Oklahoma State because they have coach John Smith who’s one of the greatest coaches ever and one of the greatest wrestlers ever, and I love the way the school is in general. It’s great to know that those are the kind of people who are going to make me a better wrestler over the next four years.”

Milligan said LSU was his top choice throughout the recruiting process, and he’s excited to play outfield at the school where his mother attended and his older sister also attends.

“To be able to play baseball at the next level is just a blessing in itself,” Milligan said. “I love the campus, I love the school … Coach (Paul) Mainieri is a great guy, Nolan Cain, all the coaching staff there is great, and the facilities there are unreal.

“I’m grateful we’ve gotten Coach Matt (Fontenot) back here at St. Louis, and our whole coaching staff is doing everything in their power to help us prepare for the next level.”

Guillory said she is excited for her senior season at St. Louis Catholic under new coach Adison Giambrone that will help solidify her prepare for Louisiana College.  Guillory plays corner, middle infield and outfield for the Lady Saints.

“Softball at St. Louis Catholic is a great experience because we’re not really known for softball, so we when we play those higher-level teams, it really prepared me for the college world,” Guillory said.  “We’re very excited to play with (Giambrone) and let her coach us and have that new experience.”
