St. Louis Catholic Powerlifting Starts Season Strong

St. Louis Catholic’s powerlifting team is off to a great start in the 2019-2020 season, working hard leading up to the West Regional in February and the State Championship in March!

At this past weekend’s Beau Chene Invitational, Junior Molly Inman and senior Emma Faul placed first and second, respectively, in their weight class, and junior Connor Mills placed third.  In addition, junior Jack Spann finished second in his division at the Southern Pallet Invitational at Abbeville in December.

St. Louis Catholic Transforms Apostolic Hours with InnerView

St. Louis Catholic Transforms Apostolic Hours with InnerView

Every year at St. Louis Catholic, we want our students to gain valuable experiences from their Apostolic Hours. This semester, we are beginning to integrate a digital platform, InnerView, within our school community to increase the impact even further and foster meaningful discussions after the service is completed. We did a soft launch in 2019 with our National Honor Society’s required service hours.

InnerView allows us to see our impact as a school and as individual students in terms of hours, service types, and monetary impact value – click to see NHS’ Service Impact Snapshot. It also factors in U.N. global goals. InnerView is NOT a social media platform, but it will streamline the need for paperwork to turn in and verify Apostolic Hours. We see InnerView redefining what service really means in our school and our community!

  • Doesn’t use students’ personal information (aside from their first name)
  • Shares with anyone using InnerView the work we are doing without being a social networking/media platform
  • Simple and easy to use
  • Students can keep their accounts active and continue volunteering after they graduate
  • Engineers and distributes national awards for service, as well as weekly updates on the number of service hours we have completed
  • Connects our students with local and national opportunities for service and will hopefully encourage some of our local nonprofits to join the platform as well

Lamar University’s Golden Wright to Serve as Guest Dance Instructor at St. Louis Catholic

Lamar University’s Golden Wright to Serve as Guest Dance Instructor at St. Louis Catholic

St. Louis Catholic is excited to welcome to campus Monday, Jan. 13, Golden Wright, the Department Chair of Theatre and Dance at Lamar University.  Wright will teach our dance students a unique style of contemporary/modern work, again broadening their knowledge of the various techniques in the dance world today.

Wright holds a B.F.A. and a M.F.A. in Dance from Sam Houston State University.  He began his training at Busby Dance Center in Victoria, Texas, and extended his training in intensive programs with the Joffrey Ballet and Ballet Austin.  He danced professionally with Ballet Austin and has performed as a guest artist with Ballet Arkansas, Beaumont Ballet Theatre, Corpus Christi Concert Ballet, Corpus Christi Ballet, and Victoria Ballet Theatre, to name a few.  Wright has showcased choreography nationally and internationally, recently having been selected to show his work in Taiwan.

Currently, he is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership from Lamar University.  Click here for a full description of his expertise.  In addition to sharing his professional dance experience with students, he can educate students about the degree program at Lamar and what professional opportunities such a degree can offer them.  Again, Wright’s visit is made possible thanks to a grant written by Saints Dance Instructor Tricia Barrow.

Supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Arts Council of SWLA.
